Date Coding at Magnavale

Date coding is one of many critical processes within food production, as prints need to be precise and legible, in order to prevent food safety issues, which could directly affect consumers. There are several types of date labels applied to food products, including;

  • Sell-By dates
  • Use-By dates
  • Best Before dates.

While some food manufacturers conduct their own labelling and date coding processes in-house this process can take up substantial factory floor space and can be expensive to purchase, maintain and staff appropriately. Instead, many food products that use our freezing facilities, arrive without a printed code and avoid having to conduct the date-coding process in-house. This is because, in their frozen state, shelf-life is paused, so a printed date is not necessary until the food product is due for despatch to retailers.

Utilising Magnavale’s network of facilities manufacturers can improve the responsiveness and flexibility of their supply chain by utilising Magnavale’s date coding service to release stock from cold storage, date code, and immediately despatch their products in finished format. In doing this, businesses can cut cost, risk and complexity whilst guaranteeing the quality of their product.

We have invested in state-of-the art, automated equipment that can apply date prints onto a range of packaging materials, at high speeds. Our date coding printers produce consistently clear, legible, and accurate date codes onto various product packaging formats, from cardboard to plastic films.

Automated, rather than manual operation of the printing process also reduces the chance of human error and potential non-compliance with date labelling regulations, which can lead to food waste and recalls.
