Magnavale Opens Standalone Cold Store & Blast Freezing Facility Exclusively for Category 3 Product

We are pleased to announce Magnavale Chesterfield now has a standalone cold storage and blast freezing facility dedicated entirely to Category 3 Animal By-Product (ABP)!

With the new license in place, the standalone cold store facility is verified to store products that aren’t intended for human consumption, such as pet food and animal feed. The venture into the storage of Category 3 ABP is due to fulfilling existing customer requirements but also enables potential new customers.  

Animal By-Products are split into categories, 1, 2 and 3, where 1 and 2 are high risk, whereas category 3, although not intended to be consumed by humans, is classed as low risk, for instance, slaughterhouse material that was once passed fit for humans but is unwanted due to commercial reasons. Many of these category 3 animal by-products are used to produce both raw and processed pet food.

Interestingly, the pet food market has evolved over the past few years and as a result the demand for storage of these products has increased. Pet owners, particularly of dogs and cats, are starting to consider alternative, high-quality brands of pet food that contain more protein and less preservatives and bulking agents.
