A Double Win for Magnavale at the Cold Chain Sustainability Awards 2026

Magnavale is proud to have taken home two prestigious awards at the Cold Chain Sustainability Awards 2026. Magnavale Easton was named Sustainable Coldstore of the Year, and Group Project Coordinator Izzie Cogan was awarded the Cold Chain Climate Champion title.

These wins reflect our belief that true sustainability is built from the ground up, through the people who champion it and the facilities designed to deliver it.

Sustainable Coldstore of the Year: Magnavale Easton

Launched in 2025, Magnavale Easton is a state-of-the-art facility designed with sustainability at its core. It is the first cold store in Europe to deploy a dual monorail automated handling system at this scale, managing 101,000 pallet positions with minimal human intervention and turning stock in approximately 9.5 days.

The facility uses a cold-lake refrigeration principle, with coolers mounted in a downward-facing orientation so that cold air cascades naturally through the storage volume. This eliminates the need for energy-intensive booster fans while maintaining a stable temperature of -18°C, with an installed cooling capacity of over 3.5 MW.

Further efficiencies are delivered through heat recovery systems, intelligent LED lighting controls, and a fully integrated digital twin that uses AI-based analytics to optimise energy performance over time. Energy procurement prioritises low and zero-carbon electricity sources, and future plans include an onsite biodigester to support further carbon reduction.

Cold Chain Climate Champion: Izzie Cogan

As Group Project Coordinator, Izzie Cogan has been pivotal in embedding sustainability into Magnavale’s culture and operational decision-making. Her approach is grounded in rigorous analysis, practical operational change, and consistent engagement at every level of the business.

Izzie led a comprehensive review of Magnavale’s environmental impact, mapping emissions across refrigeration, storage, transport, and site practices. She translated those findings into clear priorities for senior leadership and worked directly with site teams to deliver practical, lasting improvements.

Site Manager John Edgoose summarised her contribution well: “Her practical approach resulted in changes that reduced both our environmental impact and operating costs.”

Izzie has also extended this work beyond Magnavale’s own operations, collaborating with customers and suppliers to reduce emissions across the wider supply chain. In one example, she supported a customer in consolidating services through a single location, achieving a significant reduction in transport miles and associated emissions.

Recognition and Motivation to go Further

These awards reflect the collective effort of our people, our partners, and our shared commitment to raising the bar for sustainable cold chain. Izzie is richly deserving of her individual recognition, and her success is also a testament to the teams and partners who have supported and shaped that vision alongside her.

Magnavale has made significant strides in advancing what is possible in this industry. These awards are a proud milestone, and the motivation to push further.

We also wish to congratulate all winners and nominees at the Cold Chain Sustainability Awards 2026, and we thank the judges for this recognition.
