Onshoring Your Storage

Onshoring

Onshoring is the strategic move of bringing food production, pallet storage and distribution closer to the end market in which the goods are sold.

For cold chains, onshoring provides several key advantages. By localizing temperature-controlled pallet storage, companies ensure better control over stock availability where it matters, allowing greater flexibility and security of supply.

This approach is becoming increasingly important in maintaining food security and supply chain resilience. In contrast to offshoring, where operations are moved abroad, onshoring allows companies to better manage risks related to global disruptions, such as climate events, pandemics, or geopolitical tensions. Holding a supply of stock in the UK frees producers and suppliers from those risks, rather than being forced to rely on the just-in-time method of putting stock on a ship weeks before it is needed at retailers.

Modern, energy-efficient frozen and chilled warehouse facilities strategically located near major transport networks enable faster distribution, reducing transportation time and costs, and preserving product life-shelf.

We can help build this resiliency into supply chains. Our temperature-controlled facilities are bonded import warehouses and go beyond pallet storage – we offer a range of value-added services, including contract packing, blast freezing, up-tempering and more. These sites are all located near major motorway routes, enabling efficient onward distribution for our customers.

In addition, we are proud to be doing our bit to reduce the environmental impact of cold chain logistics as our new warehouse in Easton, Grantham, which is fully capable of bonded import warehousing, is one of the largest facilities of its kind in the UK and is run on 100% renewable energy.
